Deck preparation and staining in Plainwell
Plainwell Deck Staining with Careful Prep and Crisp Coverage
A uniform finish depends on more than stain quality. Blue Wheel prepares Plainwell decks for even absorption and applies an appropriate Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck product.
Smooth the transition from old finish to sound wood
Cleaning can raise weathered fibers or reveal brittle coating edges. Where needed, we sand problem areas and remove unstable material so the stain meets a cleaner, more consistent surface.
Set the finish from subtle to uniform
Solid stain is not an automatic cure for poor adhesion or damaged boards; the base must still be prepared and sound.
Plainwell surface-prep questions
Why might sanding be needed after cleaning?
Cleaning can expose raised fibers, splinters or failed coating edges. Selective sanding creates a more receptive transition, while broader sanding may be needed when changing finish type or removing a film.
Can solid stain go on every old deck?
Not automatically. The deck must be structurally sound, clean and compatible with the coating system. Peeling layers, trapped moisture or failing boards still need to be addressed first.
